Hadrien was one of the most powerful and respected leaders in history. His reign registered him among the "five good emperors", a period considered by historians as the happiest of antiquity.

Hadrien puts an end to the policy of expansion of his predecessors, stabilizes the provinces and becomes a great emperor of peace and prosperity. His heritage is immense, because Hadrian has invested in stone and the arts of all regions of his immense kingdom. It is not only Rome and Athens that are transformed by new constructions and extensive restorations, but also many other cities in its empire.
