His thirst for exploration led the diplomat and archaeologist Max von Oppenheim to discover in 1899 the remains of an old civilization very advanced on the site of Tell Halaf, in northern Syria. He was one of the greatest archaeologists of the 20th century. The Max von Oppenheim edition symbolizes the fascination that the East exerted on Oppenheim from his childhood. The design of the 925 solid silver writing instrument is inspired by the domes of the oriental mosques. The body and the cone are decorated with inlays of pale translucent gray translucent lacquer. The finely engraved Bedouin motif on the gold in 18 k rhodié recalls the passion of Oppenheim for the tribes of the Arab world.
