Crowned in 1440, Moctezuma I led the Aztec Empire to its peak. During his reign, which lasted almost thirty years, he shaped the image we know today, that of an empire of extreme cultural and mythological wealth.

A turquoise mosaic of Aztec style adorns the cap, while the barrel is made of special cocobolo wood from Central America. The mosaic is handcrafted, so that each of the 87 rooms is slightly different. It is enhanced with gold inlays with jade cabochons and an Aztec central motif. Gold has undergone special treatment in order to have a vintage appearance. The Atlatl inspired the design of the cap with its threaded handles. A triangular green jade crowns the lance -shaped clip, refined by the engraving of a quetzal feather, while the upper part of the clip recalls the traditional nasal ornament of the Aztecs. The shape of the cone, with a delicate hammered finish, echoes a knife of aztec sacrifice with an obsidian blade. The 18 K white gold feather, handcrafted, is decorated with a thin engraving inspired by the Aztec glyph of the heart. Another glyph, engraved on the front part, represents the second name of Moctezuma I: ilhuicamina.

The Montblanc emblem in mother -of -pearl on the dome of the cap is encrusted in an engraving of an Aztec solar disc. The four gold bands juxtaposed on the barrel are a special reference to the Templo Mayor, as well as the edition limited to 87 pieces. This is a reference to the year 1987, during which the Templo Mayor was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
