The limited edition 1868 recalls the days of the Russian tsars and the number of copies refers to the year of the first publication of his most famous novel, “War and Peace”. The colors of the edition, blue and gold, recall his early book covers and his portraits.
The clip and the top of the hood evoke the details of the portal of his home. The general shape of the writing instrument refers to the idea of happiness and the simple way of life of Tolstoy, born an aristocrat. The hammered effect of the gold-plated body echoes his handwork, while the opulent pattern under the lacquered body symbolizes his Russian era, dominated by the Tsar and his aristocratic family. The wooden cone tells the story of its land, Yasnaia Poliana, and its more than hundred-year-old trees in the middle of which it rests. The 18K solid gold nib is engraved with a portrait of Tolstoy.
