Crowned in 1440, Moctezuma I led the Aztec Empire to its peak. During his reign, he shaped the image we know today, that of an empire of extreme cultural and mythological richness. Its capital, Tenochtitlan, present-day Mexico City, flourished. Adorned with champagne-colored accents, the Montblanc Patron of Art Hommage à Moctezuma I Limited Edition 4810 writing instrument is dedicated to this great ruler who reigned over one of the most extraordinary civilizations in history. Its overall design is reminiscent of the atlatl used by the Aztecs to propel their spears over great distances.

The cone's shape, with a finely hammered finish, echoes an Aztec sacrificial knife with an obsidian blade. The lacquer takes up the colors of the royal coat, petrol blue and carmine red. The cap features two hieroglyphics symbolizing the period of Moctezuma I's reign. The handcrafted 18 K gold nib is decorated with a fine engraving inspired by the Aztec glyph of the city of Tenochtitlan: a three-branched cactus complemented by a royal diadem and two scrolls.
